One Month Doctor Visit and Pacifier Use

On Tuesday, Jayna went to the doctor for her one month check-up. It was an interesting visit...I had been worried that Jayna wasn't eating enough since she falls asleep about 3 minutes or so after she gets latched on. Well, the chubster IS definitely eating enough...she weighs 10 pounds 11 ounces!!! That's the 85th percentile for her weight! She is 21.5 inches long which is the 60th percentile for her height. She's growing so fast!!!

Before the doctor visit, I would get concerned if Jayna slept longer than 4 our so hours at night. Not anymore! Now that I know she's eating enough, I let her sleep as long as she wants. She's been giving me two stretches of about 5 hours. And it's GREAT!!!

I asked the doc about her frequent and seemingly painful gas and excessive spitting up. I was told that I could either change my diet or put Jayna on an acid blocker. Well, I opted to try and change my diet rather than put my month-old baby on medicine. I'm on my third day of no dairy and things seem to be getting better. She still spits up every now and then, but it's alot less. And her painful gas seems to be gone. I guess I have 5 or more months of no dairy. No cheese. No ice cream. DRAT!

On Wednesday night, we tried giving her a pacifier when she got fussy. She rejected it. Last night I tried a different kind and she took it for awhile, but then wouldn't take it again after she ate. I think she'll either never take it or she'll only take it when she's fussy. She doesn't really ever act like she wants additional sucking during the day...it's only in the evening when she gets fussy.

Things seem to be going a little better in the past few days. We still run into small things here and there, but we're learning as we go. Hopefully we keep up the momentum...
