Five For Friday: Two Years Old

It has recently come to my attention that I haven't blogged about Jayna at 2 years old.  It's just that...umm...well, I'm busy and I...I don't really know what to tell you, etc.  But I have had some time to think about it and I'm going to just spit it out.

I'll start by saying that on the Friday before Jayna's birthday and birthday party, she had her 2year well-child check up.  She's doing great!!  She's still on the chunky/short side, but we're beginning to even out.  She weighed an even 30 pounds and was 33.75 inches tall.  This puts her BMI in the 80th or so percentile...which is high.  When the doctor asked me what kinds of foods she eats, I was so tempted to say, "Well, for breakfast we usually have cherry pie and Pixie Stix, lunch is rounded out with Snickers and Reese Cups and Mountain Dew, and dinner is KFC and German chocolate cake with taffy and Oreos."  But I didn't.  I said, "She eats what a normal 2-year-old eats.  She eats some veggies (green beans, broccoli, peas, corn, carrots, cauliflower) about 4 to 5 times a week and she eats chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, no sugar added apple sauce, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, grilled chicken, beans, etc.  She eats...food."  I got the go-ahead on her diet after I told the doctor that.

I was then asked what she drinks.  I didn't respond with, "Mountain Dew, coffee and 3.5 gallons of juice a day."  But that doesn't mean I didn't want to.  I said, "She drinks about 8 ounced of milk per day flavored with very little Nesquik and she drinks about 5 or 6 ounces of juice a day that I dilute into two 7 ounce cups...4 ounces of water to 2 to 3 ounces of juice.  The rest of the time she drinks water with lemon."  I was told to cut her juice down to 3 ounces a day.  I think that's ridiculous, but we're "trying."  She brushes her teeth everyday atleast once and VERY GOOD (I do it) and I just don't think 5 ounces is that much.  Measure it out and look at it.  It's about 2 grownup swigs.

Anyhoo, she's on track or beyond most things for her age.  There isn't anything that she sould be doing that she isn't and many things she's doing that are things kids a tad older than her are doing.  She had only one vaccine that she thought was the end of the world (until she saw her pink bandaid and Dora sticker) and then we were outta there.

And now, since it's Five for Friday and all, I'm going to give you my Top Five Favorite Things About Having a Two-Year-Old that will be followed by my Top Five LEAST Favorite Things About Having a Two-Year-Old.  Here ya go:

Favorite Things:
  1. Jayna now communicates what she wants.  If she's thirsty, she says so.  If she's cold, she says so.  If she thinks someone's hair is silly, she says so.  I LOVE the fact that things are less of a guessing game these days.  It really makes life easier.
  2. Jayna says lots of phrases that she hears from adults, but uses them in cute ways.  Hell, even when she's using them correctly it's still cute because you don't expect her to use them.  Today I told her we needed to get her diaper changed and leave.  She said, "Not yet, mommy.  I still playing."  I said, "Too bad...we have to go."  Her reply??  While shaking her head no, "Don't have to, mommy.  Wanna play."  Yesterday I asked her if she wanted something to drink.  She said, "Sure do, mommy."  It's really the cutest thing.
  3. Jayna can do more things.  Having an infant is exhausting.  Having a 2-year-old is still exhausting, but in a totally different way.  We took her to Indiana Beach over the weekend and she was going from ride to ride and never got tired.  Instead of us being tired from feeding and changing diapers, we're tired from helping her DO things...which is really cool.
  4. Jayna wants to learn things.  She has an incredible thirst for knowledge.  She loves to learn new songs and how to draw things.  She also is learning to put on and take off her clothes by herself.  She WANTS to learn these things.  I love to watch her figure out things for herself and then be proud of herself for learning.
  5. Jayna is fun.  We have so much fun with that kid even if it's just running around the backyard.  She even makes watching television fun!!  There's just something about a carefree, innocent little doll being around that makes even mundane tasks exciting.  You should watch us pick up sticks out of the yard.  It's a blast!!
LEAST Favorite Things:
  1. Jayna may be ABLE to communicate, but that doesn't mean she always does it.  Sometimes when she's tired or hungry or just doesn't feel like talking, she will just throw a fit instead of tell us what she needs or wants.  We have to talk her down several times a week and make her "use her words."
  2. Jayna can throw one hell of a fit...and is VERY persistent.  On Wednesday night I asked her to put away her shoes.  She screamed NO in my face twice.  She got a time out.  She then proceeded to stay in time out for about 8 minutes until Chris lost his cool and put her shoes away and took away her television priveleges for Thursday.  To me, this was only a small glimpse into the future...
  3. Jayna is growing up at a rate of WAY TOO FAST.  I remember when she was born like it was yesterday.  No, people...I STILL HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN.  I really want her to stay little like this forever, but I'm excited for her to grow up also.  Weird.
  4. Jayna is learning how to REALLY manipulate people.  Chris and I have had to step in with people like Nanas and Summer when we catch her doing it.  I don't want her to be the kid who KNOWS FOR CERTAIN that she can get away with murder with certain people.  Being an assertive parent is difficult sometimes though.
  5. She has her opinions and she's relentless.  If you all would've seen the way she was dressed today, you'd know what I mean.  NONE of her clothes matched...because she picked them out and "I WANNA WEAR THAT ONE MOMMY!!!  NO...THAT ONE!!!"  She had on fuschia and pale pink Hello Kitty socks with brown sandals, a brown, baby pink and baby blue sweater, bright green pants and her beloved "bubblegum shirt" that is yellow and orange and blue.  Just a little embarrassing...but the cute outweighed the embarrassing by a mile.
Having a 2-year-old is serious business people.  And I hear 3-years-old is even better.  Mwahahaha!!
