August 13

This desk was built for me by my grandfather on my dad's side.  His name was Harry and he was a pretty cool guy.  I'm sad to say that he passed when I was young...maybe 8 or 9...and I didn't know him as well as I would've liked.  This desk has been with me all through my life and now it's Jayna's.

The chair was my mom's when she was young.  She's kept it this whole time.  It was my desk chair when I was young because it seemed like the perfect size.  It was painted white when I was a kid and we used it as the "extra chair" when any of us had friends over for dinner.  I remember it being painted about 5 different colors underneath the white paint and I remember that you DID NOT TIP BACKWARDS IN THIS CHAIR.  It was so rickety that you certainly would've broken a bone...probably your neck.

A few Christmases ago, my stepdad, Roger, took the chair to a guy who stripped all the old paint off and then stabilized it.  He then stained it the color that we'd stained the desk when I gave it to Jayna.  On the bottom, I painted a heart.  Around the heart are the names of my mom, me and then Jayna.

While I like old furniture and refurbishing things from long ago, I've never really been into heirlooms or antiques.  I'm sooo very glad that the chair is now back with the desk.  While they weren't originally together in the beginning, they've always been a pair in my mind and I'm so happy that I get to pass the pair down to Jayna.  Hopefully she'll eventually get to pass the pair down again. :)
