Weekend Observations

I had a very interesting weekend. VERY interesting. It was so interesting that I made quite a few observations that I hadn't made before. And here they are...

* Somewhere close to my house, it seems that there was a wreck between two semi trucks. One was carrying blackberries (the hand-held device, NOT the fruit...let's not visit that again) and the other was carrying queen pillowtop mattresses. To clean up the accident quickly, all of the merchandise was given away to lucky bystanders. Why do I think this accident occurred, you ask? Well, because there are signs on EVERY street corner within 3 miles of my house with phone numbers to call to buy blackberries and queen pillowtop mattresses. You tell me...how else does one come into the possession of so many blackberries and queen pillowtop mattresses? And, while I'm asking questions, who ACTUALLY calls a number to buy a blackberry or, especially, a queen pillowtop mattress? I sure hope these people have day jobs.

* A person can still be a spoiled brat when he/she is a 40- or 50-something year old ADULT. We shouldn't wonder why there are so many spoiled brat children out there...these children are being raised by generations of spoiled brats!! I never understood the whole "it's my way or the highway," "I'm entitled to (fill in the blank)" mentality. Two things I was taught growing up are that the world does NOT revolve around ME and that I must EARN things and not EXPECT them to fall in my lap. In my opinion, this brattiness is what is wrong with the world today. GROW UP, PEOPLE!!

* Kids are funny. They crack me up...especially the 6-year-old nephew. He had so much fun at his birthday party that consisted of NO kids except himself. Kids really do show us how much we do NOT need to be happy. He was perfectly happy with 3 or 4 awesome gifts and some cake and ice cream.

* Christmas is RIGHT around the corner. We went to Meijer on Saturday and they have a "Countdown to Christmas" sign. On Saturday it was only 39 days until Christmas!! That's only 5 weekends!! I have begun talking about Christmas shopping to Chris and he keeps saying, "But Thanksgiving hasn't even come yet." But still. I need a plan...especially now that I have limited time to go shopping!! I need to get busy on things. I feel lots of online shopping coming on...

* Just when you think I have my baby figured out, she throws me a curveball. I made an entry on Friday about how she was being a maniac while eating...yeah, she's done with that. She was a good eater all weekend and we didn't have to change a thing!! And she hasn't had to have formula yet. I said YET. That will probably happen later this week, though.

* Even though raccoons are mean, it is still sad when one is suffering. We had a very sick raccoon in our backyard Saturday night and Sunday. Chris had to go out in the cold with a flashlight and a broomstick everytime the dogs had to go out!! It was hilarious! But we didn't want our dogs to get into a fight with a sick raccoon. We had to call animal control on Sunday to come take it away. The lady said she thought it had distemper. It was trapped in our neighbor's yard and could barely walk...I think if it would have quit pacing in the yard it would have died. It was very sad. It took animal control 2.5 hours to get to our house and we had to keep an eye on it that whole time so it wouldn't get away. Watching a living thing suffer is just heartbreaking.

What a great weekend...lots of fun stuff!
