New Word Wednesday: Day Late, Dollar Short

Story of my life, I tell ya.

Jayna loves Special K cereal.  Specifically the strawberry kind.  And she loves to eat all the strawberries out of there before even a quarter of the actual cereal is gone.  And I let her.  Because why fight such a silly battle?  After the berries are gone, we just put raisins in it and it becomes Raisin Special K.

Jayna has always lumped all berries into one category collectively known as "bay-ees."  While she's never eaten any berries except blueberries and strawberries, she knows what they are and named them accordingly.  She likes strawberries, but not fresh and by themselves.  She likes strawberry flavored things and 9 times out of 10 when she says "bay-ees" she means strawberries.

Last week sometime, I gave her strawberries and cream oatmeal for breakfast.  She's had this several times.  She told me, "Mommy, bay-ees."  I replied, "Yep, those are strawberries.  Can you say 'strawberries?'"  She didn't even attempt it.  She just laughed at me.

A few days later I made her eggs for breakfast and she didn't want them.  She said, "Kays stead, Mommy?"  ("Hey lady...can I have Special K instead of eggs?")  To which I said, "Sure.  I'll get it for you."  And then I hear from behind me, "Kays and stawbellies, Mommy...pease."

So.  Effin.  Cute. :)
