If you follow me on Facebook, you'll know most of this post already. I really want to put it here though, as I make my blog a yearly book so I have a hard copy of all of it.
I've been trying to get Jayna psyched about Halloween for a couple of weeks now. We read various Halloween books, sing Five Little Pumpkins, we look at costume catalogs and we talk about what we're going to do on Halloween. I want her to be excited about it.
She wants to be SpongeBob...to which I say NO WAY! I'm not paying 40 bucks for that stupid sponge costume. I usually don't try to change her mind when I give her a choice, but this is where I put my foot down.
We've looked at other costumes in the catalogs and she likes Strawberry Shortcake, a Princess and Batgirl. I have NO idea why she likes Batgirl so much, but it's better than SpongeBob.
Last week I asked her, "Jayna, what would you like to be for Halloween?" She replied, "A costume!!" She was very proud of herself for seemingly knowing the answer. I laughed.
A few days later I asked her again, but with different wording. "Jayna, what would you like to wear for your costume?" She promptly answered, "Halloween!!" Again, with lots of pride in her answer. And I laughed again.
This morning I asked her, again with different words. "Jayna, what do you want to wear for your Halloween costume?" She didn't answer right away. She sat in her carseat and put her fingers to her lips as if to collect her thoughts. "Hab no idea, mommy. Haffa go to goashy store and look." Well played, Jayna. Well played.
I melted after that. She's growing up too fast.
Jayna thinks everything comes from the grocery store. And I don't know where or when she picked up the phrase "I have no idea."
She keeps me on my toes...and it will be interesting to see what she really picks. We just know it won't be SpongeBob.
