Melancholy Monday: Four Legged Family Pt. 2

The is Part 2 of a two-part series about my dogs.  To read Part 1, click here.

Oliver came along in 2006.  Maxx passed away the day before the Super Bowl in 2006 and it was one of the most difficult days in my life.  It also took it's toll on Morgan.  He constantly looked for Maxx.  He would go sniff around where Maxx' bed used to be.  And he'd bring me toys that he NEVER played with, but were Maxx' favorite.

Morgan and I became alot closer in those few weeks after Maxx passed.  We went for daily walks in the neighborhood, something I was unable to do with both dogs by myself.  We played alot and we cuddled more than ever.  But we both knew something was missing.

I told Chris that we'd be waiting to get another dog, IF we ever did, for atleast 6 months.  We waited.  We stopped taking Morgan for granted.  He went everywhere with us for the next month or so.  Every party.  Every family gathering.  We just felt so bad about leaving him home alone.

We ALL knew something was missing.

Enter Oliver...

Chris, Morgan and I went to see our friends in Bloomington (their dog was Maxx and Morgan's best friend) sometime in April of 2006.  And we came home with Oliver.

Man...we had NO idea what we were getting ourselves into.

We made a trip to the Bloomington Humane Society "just because."  Yeah.  Whatevs.  I think we knew we were getting a dog.  We found Oliver and he was such a good dog in his kennel.  He'd let you pet him, but when you'd walk away, he'd instantly just go lie back down on his bed.  He didn't whine or bark or anything.  We thought he was sooo sweet.

Well, he is sweet, but he's also a pain in the ass.  For the first few months, he constantly pooped on Morgan's bed.  Nowhere else except for on Morgan's bed.  He also liked to eat things.  Not chew them...EAT THEM WHOLE.  Yeah...he's weird.

He has grown up alot in the past 4 years.  He's calm and lovable.  He loves Jayna and tries to sleep in her room almost every night.  He loves to get cuddles...but only when HE wants them (and you don't necessarily have time to give them).  He looks up to Morgan and the two still play together alot...much to Ollie's advantage now that Moe is older.

All in all he's a good dog.  Just...quirky.  :)

And I could also go on and on with story after story about this little guy.  Like the time he ate an entire WalMart plastic bag and Chris didn't believe me until after Ollie puked it up WHOLE, or the time he escaped out of his harness and ran to the main road.  But I love him...

I am concerned about how he'll do as a single dog.  Not that there are any guarantees that he'll be a single dog someday.  We thought that Maxx would far outlive Morgan and we all know how that turned out.  I just hope the little guy can pull the weight of being the only dog in the house if it comes to that.  I'm pretty sure that he'll be lost without Moe.

The pictures in this post were taken last month, in September 2010.  Before this year, ALL photos of Ollie were blurry.  He'd never hold still!  But now he has a 2-year-old to contend with, so he's a little more tired on a daily basis.  Maybe he'll be okay...given that he has his little girl. :)
